A Fairer Globalization (Public Affairs Program Series, 2006-07) Can we imagine policies that will both unleash and harness global wealth and power to promote opportunity and freedom for all? This series gives a voice to positive ideas for a fair and just globalization.

American Military Power: An Ethical Inquiry (Public Affairs Program Series) The projection of American power brings with it certain duties and responsibilities. These imperatives are framed by three factors: unmatched technical capacity; the force's professional character; and threat perception.

The Resurgence of Religion in Politics (Public Affairs Program Series) Religious fervor is growing, reshaping the identities and actions of an increasingly large number of people around the world, from Africa to the Americas. What does this mix of faith-based and pluralistic politics mean for the future?

Annual Morgenthau Memorial Lecture Series Named for famed international relations scholar Hans Morgenthau, the annual Morgenthau Memorial Lecture series is the longest-running public education initiative of the Carnegie Council.

Ethics and Debt Project (2003-2006) This joint project with The New School (and support from the Ford Foundation) aims to generate debate on the ethical questions of sovereign indebtedness; to identify the relevant principles for the ethical assessment of proposed solutions; and to explore policies and institutional arrangements based on such principles.

Ethics in a Violent World (2005-2006) Focusing on the institutions regulating war and peace, this initiative engages scholars, policymakers, and concerned citizens through major public lectures, policy briefings, and journal articles.

Human Rights Initiative Program (1994-2005) This program explored the ethical dilemmas that occur when human rights ideals confront realities on the ground. Through meetings, seminars, and workshops, the project looked for ways to define the parameters of this broad, interdisciplinary area of study. The magazine Human Rights Dialogue was part of this initiative.

History and the Politics of Reconciliation (2000-2005) This program promoted research and dialogue on how societies reckon with difficult pasts and the process involved in reconciliation at a societal or political level.

Empire and Democracy (2003-2004) Democracy is a near-universal value. But does America have the right to impose it unilaterally? Are there better, multilateral means to promote democracy? This project addresses these questions by holding high-level panels, creating online resources, and conducting original research.

Environmental Values (1991-2002) This project consisted of two parts: a track two dialogue between Japanese and American negotiators and their academic advisers, involved with meetings leading up to the 1992 Earth Summit; and an international study examining values and their role in environmental policy-making in China, India, Japan and the United States.

Justice and the World Economy (2000-2003) The Justice and the World Economy program provided resources and an inter-professional and interdisciplinary forum for discussions concerning the justice of global institutional arrangements, such as capital and labor markets, international fiscal, labor, and property law, and the international financial and trading regimes.
