Professor Ruth Gavison is a Senior Fellow Emeritus at the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI). Her areas of research include ethnic conflict, the protection of minorities, human rights, political theory, judiciary law, religion and politics, and Israel as a Jewish and democratic State. She received an LLB, an LLM and a BA in Philosophy and Economics from the Hebrew University, and her doctorate in Legal Philosophy from Oxford.
Gavison was a founding member of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) where she served for many years as Chairperson and as President from 1996 to 1999. She is currently a member of the International Commission of Jurists.
In 1997 Gavison received the Zeltner prize for excellence in research. Her many publications include: "Constitutions and Political Reconstruction?
