Michael Doyle

Michael Doyle is Harold Brown Professor of U.S. Foreign and Security Policy at Columbia University.

Before going to Columbia, he was a professor of politics and international affairs at Princeton, though for two years he was on leave to work as UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's special advisor. As Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, he was responsible for strategic planning and U.S.-UN relations.

 At Princeton and Columbia his teaching and research have focused on global governance, international ethics, conflict resolution, and comparative peace-building.

Doyle is co-editor of Globalization of Human Rights (UN Press, 2003), and author of Ways of War and Peace: Realism, Liberalism, and Socialism (Norton, 1997) and Empires (Cornell, 1986).
