Joseph S. Nye Jr. is University Distinguished Service Professor and the Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also the former dean.

Nye served as assistant secretary of defense under President Clinton. His books include Bound to Lead (1990), The Paradox of American Power (2001), and Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics (2004).
