Jeff McMahan is Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University. Prior to coming to Rutgers he was a fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge University, and then taught at the University of Illinois. His principal interests are in medical ethics and international ethics.
He is the author of The Ethics of Killing: Problems at the Margins of Life (Oxford University Press 2002) and is presently working on a sequel provisionally called The Ethics of Killing: Self-Defense, War, and Punishment, also to published by Oxford. His work on these companion volumes has been supported by the MacArthur Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the U.S. Institute of Peace. He has published papers on the ethics of cloning, abortion and prenatal injury, infanticide, the ethics of prenatal screening for disability, stem cell research, the distinction between killing and letting die, and brain death.
