Jedediah Purdy is Assistant Professor of Law at Duke University.

Before joining the Duke faculty, Jedeidah Purdy clerked for the Honorable Pierre N. Leval, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New York City, and was a fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School and the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C..

His recent publications include Democratic Vistas: Reflections on the Life of American Democracy (editor),  Being America: Liberty, Commerce, and Violence in an American World (Knopf 2003); "A Freedom-Promoting Approach to Property" (forthcoming in U. Chicago L. Rev.); "The American Transformation of Waste Doctrine" (forthcoming in Cornell L. Rev.); "The Ethics of Empire, Again" (forthcoming in Cal. L. Rev.); and "The Limits of Courage and Principle" (forthcoming in Mich. L. Rev.). He is also the author of For Common Things: Irony, Trust, and Commitment in America Today (Knopf 1999), and many essays in publications including The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Op-Ed Page and Book Review, The American Prospect, and Die Zeit.

Jedediah Purdy serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Council's journal, Ethics & International Affairs.
