Devesh Kapur is Madan Lal Sobti Associate Professor for the Study of Contemporary India and the Director of the Center for Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of The World Bank: Its First Half Century (coauthored with John P. Lewis and Richard Webb, 1997), Give Us Your Best and Brightest: The Global Hunt for Talent and Its Impact on the Developing World (coauthored with John McHale, 2005), and Public Institutions in India: Performance and Design (coedited with Pratap Bhanu Mehta, 2005). He holds a B.Tech from Banaras Hindu University and an M.S. from the University of Minnesota, both in chemical engineering, and a Ph.D. in public policy from Princeton University.
