Danilo Türk

 
     
 
A Slovenian national, Danilo Türk has served as Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs at the UN since February 2000. Prior to assuming this position, he was Ambassador from Slovenia to the UN (1992-2000) and represented Slovenia on the Security Council (1998-99). A Professor of International Law at Ljubljana University, Mr. Türk served as a UN Special Rapporteur on several human rights issues (1986-92) and has worked for the promotion of human rights both in Slovenia and internationally.
