Description:
The Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is proud to partner with the Truman National Security Project to host an evening discussion about the war in Afghanistan as it stands today, and how the United States will eventually be able to exit its now nine-year battle in that country. With President Obama's announcement on December 1st that he has ordered an additional 30,000 U.S. forces into Afghanistan, along with the simultaneous order to begin a draw-down in 18 months, the concept of how the United States will exit Afghanistan is more relevant than ever. A panel of Truman Project Fellows with first-hand military, diplomatic, and NGO experience in Afghanistan will be moderated by Carnegie Council Senior Security Fellow David Speedie and will discuss this pressing challenge of how and when we leave Afghanistan.
