Development Intern - Spring

Description

The Development Department is responsible for identifying and cultivating potential donors, soliciting new and continuing gifts, and maintaining and stewarding our existing donors. Development works with members and subscribers, major donors, foundations, and corporate partners, as well as Council staff and Board members. In this economic climate, fundraising is more important than ever, and development skills are in high demand on the job market.

Projects may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Researching potential funders and finding those whose priorities match the Carnegie Council's mission
  • Assisting with the implementation of Carnegie Council's strategic fundraising plans
  • Coordination of solicitation and outreach materials, including high volume mailings, merging and printing letters and labels, gathering materials, assembling packets, and shipping
  • Tracking correspondence and meetings with existing and potential donors
  • Creating, updating, and maintaining member profiles
  • Administrative support for fundraising events and projects
  • General departmental support, including faxing, filing, photocopying, data-entry, and other clerical tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Superb attention to detail, organization skills, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and Access
  • Familiarity with internet research and e-mail services
  • Ability to work in groups as well as independently see projects to completion
  • Strong communication skills, particularly strong writing ability
  • Interest in nonprofit development/fundraising, marketing and sales, or nonprofit management
  • Interest in international relations, political science, and public administration a plus

Terms and Conditions: This is an unpaid internship. School credit can be arranged and a transportation stipend of $15 a day will be provided. We require a minimum commitment of 15 hours a week during the spring semester.
